Monroe Country Club is a semi-private, nine-hole course in Monroe, New York, measuring 5,428 yards and open to public play.
The layout was designed by William S. Flynn, an architect active in the first half of the 20th century. Flynn began his career working on the construction of the East Course at Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania under Hugh Wilson, and went on to build a substantial body of work in the Philadelphia area, including Philadelphia Country Club, Rolling Green, Huntingdon Valley and Lehigh. His designs elsewhere include Cherry Hills Country Club near Denver, The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, Shinnecock Hills on Long Island and The Cascades in Virginia.
Flynn was also an innovator in course architecture, credited as the first to build a million-dollar golf course, the first to use three separate sets of tees, and an early advocate of limiting golf ball distance to keep courses from stretching ever longer.
