LeRoy Country Club
About LeRoy Country Club
LeRoy Country Club traces its origins to 1930, when Donald Woodward — the youngest son of Jell-O magnate Orator Woodward — announced plans to build the village's first public nine-hole golf course. The site chosen was on the north side of East Main Road, across from his large stock barn at the corner of Asbury Road. Woodward had already caught the golf bug, installing lights at his nearby airport to create a driving range, and he wanted a regulation course that ordinary players drawn to miniature golf could actually use.

Woodward drew up the layout himself, basing it on his own observations of what makes a good golf course. He did not set out to build the hardest course possible, but included hazards and challenges, among them a pond. The rolling land and a creek running through it suited the purpose well. In time the course sat alongside his other holdings, which included the airport, a gun club and target range, a baseball diamond and a wayside inn.
