Holland Heights Golf Course sits on what was once a 230-acre dairy farm in Herkimer, New York. Construction began in the spring of 1995, when father and son Dirk and Ronald deJong broke ground on the first nine holes.
Course designer Archie "Pete" Craig, who had drawn up some 40 layouts across New York State, was brought in to sketch the rough plan for the front nine. Dirk and his wife Clara, both emigrants from the Netherlands, named the course Holland Heights and carried a Dutch theme through it.
