Stonehedges Golf Course
About Stonehedges Golf Course
Stonehedges Golf Course traces its origins to the Groton Golf and Recreation Association, incorporated as a non-profit organization in the summer of 1964. The effort was driven largely by employees of Smith Corona, who sought a family recreation center for the Cortland-Groton area. Financed through a federal Farmers Home Administration loan along with a $25,000 contribution from the SCM Employee Club, the project grew into an 18-hole golf course accompanied by tennis courts, a swimming pool and a clubhouse. The course opened for play in the spring of 1967.

Financial difficulties followed the additional construction, and in 1983 the association renegotiated its loan with a commitment to operate as an affordable course for rural residents. The tennis courts and swimming pool were removed at that time.
The club today combines memberships with play by the general public, and includes a restaurant, bar and pro shop.
