Capital Hills at Albany
About Capital Hills at Albany
Capital Hills at Albany is a municipal golf course owned by the City of Albany and designed by Devereux Emmet.
The course traces its origins to a city initiative to add golf to Albany's park and recreation offerings, prompted by growing public interest in the game. Mayor Thatcher's call led to the formation of a study committee chaired by Alfred Sporborg, with members Jacob Herzog, John H. McElroy, George I. Lawyer and Frederick Futterer.

In 1930 the city acquired 265 acres of farmland from the Walley family in the Town of Bethlehem and engaged Emmet to lay out the course. A temporary nine-hole layout opened later that year and was free to play, drawing more than 1,500 golfers during its first summer.
