About Albuquerque Country Club
Albuquerque Country Club traces its origins to April 1914, when 22 local businessmen laid out a five-hole course with gravel fairways and sand greens near the site of the present UNM golf course. It later expanded to nine holes, and dirt tennis courts followed in 1915.
The original property was sold in 1927 and the club moved to its current 100-acre site, land once part of the Huning Farm. Trimble's Hog Farm occupied what is now the ninth fairway, the National Guard stabled horses on a portion of the ground, and an irrigation canal running from the river toward Old Town crossed the property; depressions left by that canal are still visible on several fairways. Access to water from the nearby Rio Grande allowed grass to be grown and supported the canopy of trees that surrounds the course.

In early 1929 the members bought a private home next to the course and converted it into a clubhouse. Later work included designs by architect John Gaw Meem, with the most recent renovation in 2005. The club is private.
