About Peddie Golf Club
Peddie Golf Club occupies land that was once the 44-acre farm of Walter C. Black, whose family ran Village Nurseries from 1876 until 2000. Black, a Peddie School graduate and longtime school treasurer, took up golf at 60 and continued playing into his nineties.
The original nine holes were laid out in 1923 by Black and his son-in-law, insurance agent C. Stanley Stults, along with other local businessmen, winding through the nursery's Christmas tree farm, orchards and nursery stock. After the 1929 depression made upkeep impossible, the course was transferred to Peddie for one dollar, with Black and his wife retaining rights to their home and their children to the course.

That nine stayed largely unchanged until 1952, when superintendent and professional Burtis Parker expanded the layout to 18 holes using the remaining nursery acreage and adjoining land. His routing preserved many unusual trees, including maples, spruce, pine, oak, elm, chestnut, apple, magnolia and tulip.
