Mattawang Golf Club

Mattawang Golf Club in Belle Mead remains largely faithful to its original layout, a design rooted in the private-club style of the 1950s and early 1960s that emphasized shot-making within a natural setting.

From the back tees the course measures 6,805 yards, giving it considerable length. The fairways can look broad at first glance but play tighter than they appear, with trees lining many holes positioned to punish wayward shots.

In keeping with the era's design thinking, most greens are small and guarded by sand traps. Accuracy off the tee and on approach is at a premium, as missing in the wrong spot leaves a difficult recovery.
