About Portsmouth Country Club
Portsmouth Country Club is a private, member-owned club in Greenland, New Hampshire, with roots dating to 1901. Its 18-hole course was designed by Robert Trent Jones and sits along the shores of Great Bay, combining natural coastal scenery with the architect's championship layout.
The club was founded by a group of local golfers who bought farmland and hired architect Alex Findlay to lay out nine holes, a project completed in about five weeks. The course grew to 18 holes by 1933. In the 1950s the federal government took the original property by eminent domain to build a bomber base, the site of what is now Pease Golf Course. The club acquired its present land and commissioned Robert Trent Jones to create an entirely new 18-hole course, finished in 1956 and opened for play in July 1957.

The original clubhouse served for more than four decades before being replaced by the current building in 1998.
