Norfolk Country Club

Norfolk Country Club ranks among Nebraska's oldest golf courses, sitting on the same ground at the north edge of Norfolk since it was established in 1908–1909 by Dr. P. H. Salter and C. H. Reynolds, a railroad superintendent.

The layout was routed by Gene Huse, who also served as Norfolk's first parks commissioner, and play began in 1909. S. A. Braden, also a railroad man, was the club's first president. In the earliest years the greenskeeper's work included looking after the sheep that grazed the course short, the greens were ringed by a single strand of smooth wire, and tees were elevated wooden boxes supplied with a pail of water and sand for shaping a mound to tee the ball.
