About Tatanka Golf Club
Tatanka Golf Club takes its name from the Dakota word for buffalo, an animal central to the historic culture of northeast Nebraska. The course is a project of the Santee Sioux Nation.
Designed by architect Paul Albanese, the layout opened in 2015 on rolling terrain marked by bold hills and ridges, with long sightlines said to stretch 30 to 40 miles. Albanese has described the property as among the most interesting sites he has worked with.
During construction, Albanese studied the history and culture of the Sioux Nation so that cultural stories could be reflected in the design, with his team discussing ideas raised by the Nation as each fairway, green and bunker took shape.
