About Fox Hills Golf Course
Fox Hills Golf Course in Watford City was designed to suit a wide range of abilities while offering enough strategy to draw players from beyond the immediate area. The layout was shaped to blend into the western North Dakota landscape, with rolling hills and a distinct links character. Much of the property had never been cultivated, and stretches of native short-grass prairie were preserved during construction.

The course winds through that prairie and along the banks of Cherry Creek, with water in play on seven holes and a mix of uphill and downhill shots. Fairways are generous, emphasizing angles of attack and allowing some margin against the persistent wind. Greens are large and contoured, rewarding approaches that finish in the correct section. Bunkers, inspired by links courses in Ireland and Great Britain, are deep and faced with wood bulkheads to keep them visible and to hold sand in place. Five sets of tees are named for regional landmarks such as the Long X Ox-Cart Trail and the North Dakota Badlands.
