About Waynesville Inn and Golf Club
The Waynesville Inn and Golf Club traces its origins to 1926, when architect Donald Ross laid out the original nine holes — known as the Carolina 9 — on the site of a former dairy farm in the Great Smoky Mountains. The design is said to have begun as a sketch by Ross, and the old dairy barn was converted into the property's first clubhouse, which housed a card room, a dance hall and living quarters for the golf professional.

The land previously belonged to local dairy farmer Jack Welch and was acquired by Jim Long during the period when Waynesville was becoming known as a health retreat. Long and a group of friends developed it into what was then Waynesville Country Club.
Today the 165-acre property holds 18 holes of golf set against mountain scenery, along with 72 guest rooms, roughly 6,000 square feet of event space, an outdoor event lawn and on-site dining.
