Belmont Lake Golf Club in Rocky Mount features a layout on which many holes bend from right to left, though the opening hole breaks that pattern: a broad fairway curves to the right toward a downhill approach, with slope on the right side of the green that can feed slightly offline shots toward the putting surface.
The second hole is considered the toughest par on the course, largely because of its length at 468 yards from the back tee. Only long drives carry the upslope, leaving a short iron into a wide green where putts of sixty feet or more are possible.

The shortest hole on the course is also among its most scenic and demanding, guarded by water short of the green; shots that come up even slightly short find the hazard, with a drop area to the left of the green.
