Monroeton Golf Club traces its origins to the late 1930s, when local farmer Hugh P. Griffin Sr. was denied membership at a nearby country club and decided to build a course of his own. With help from his son Hugh Jr., other area farmers and mule power, the layout opened in 1939 as a nine-hole public course with sand-clay greens.
Improvements have continued ever since. A second nine was added, the greens were converted to bentgrass, and a more recent major renovation rebuilt the green complexes and resurfaced the putting surfaces with 007 bentgrass.
The course is set up to accommodate a range of skill levels, from newcomers to experienced players. The clubhouse operates year-round and stocks quick bites, snacks and drinks, along with Monroeton merchandise and golf essentials.
