Plymouth Country Club sits in Plymouth, North Carolina, on the route toward the Dare County beaches. The course was designed in 1937 by William S. Flynn, with Ellis Maples and Dick Wilson overseeing its construction; the two are said to have made slight adjustments to Flynn's plan. Flynn also contributed to the design and construction of Merion Golf Club and is remembered for his 1931 reconstruction of Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.
The layout is a nine-hole course of traditional character, with fairways framed by mature oaks and tall pines and dogwoods scattered through the property. It is straightforward in presentation rather than deceptive — lines of play are visible from the tee — but it remains a test, playable while still demanding, and it gives up few easy scores.
