The River Golf Club sits along the Tar River in Franklin County, North Carolina, in a wooded setting marked by elevation changes and water. Grasses are suited to the region's climate: common bermuda covers the fairways and roughs, while the greens are planted in champion bermuda. Both are warm-season varieties that thrive in the heat and humidity of North Carolina summers, going dormant in winter and returning to green putting surfaces once ground temperatures climb into the 60s and 70s. The mix of trees, terrain and water gives the par 3s in particular some memorable views. The back nine carries the same character, with one unusual feature: holes 10 and 17 share a single green, an arrangement rarely seen in the area. It occasionally rewards a misdirected shot with a playable, if very long, putt.
