About Hillandale Golf Course
Hillandale Golf Course traces its origins to 1911, when Durham resident John Sprunt Hill donated the land to the community. The original nine holes came from architect Donald Ross, with a second nine laid out by Perry Maxwell.
The course moved to its present site in 1960 and was redesigned by George Cobb, the architect behind the Surf Club in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Environmental work plays a notable role at Hillandale. The property hosts North Carolina State University's Wetlands Restoration program, which gives students and faculty hands-on field experience, and the Ellerbee-Neuse River Basin renovation and beautification project adds water filtration and visual improvements to the surrounding area.
