About Cedarwood Country Club

Cedarwood Country Club in Charlotte traces its origins to the early 1960s, when Alec Guion collaborated with golf course architect Ellis Maples to build a layout intended to suit players of varying skill levels and their families. Shortly after the course opened in what was then a rural stretch of Mecklenburg County, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player played an exhibition there, drawing a gallery made up largely of the club's own regular golfers.

The surroundings have changed considerably since then, with the Arboretum and Ballantyne areas now developing nearby in South Charlotte. The club later became private, with the stated intent of preserving its established family-oriented character. Today Cedarwood operates as a private, family-focused club offering a range of activities in addition to golf.
