Nevada Country Club traces its origins to 1922, when four local businessmen — George Few, R.S. Hart, C.C. Hawkins and Gene Todd — leased land in southwest Missouri and laid out a scenic nine-hole course with sand greens. The property belonged to Osage Indian Chief Harry Kohpay and held a small frame structure near its center.
Kohpay sold the land to Sam Carter in 1927, and the golfing association was reorganized as the Radio Springs Golf Club. In 1929 local attorney Boyd Ewing acquired part of the property with the intention of converting the frame house into a clubhouse. Ewing and Dr. Orville Dodge bought the 90-acre course from the Carter family in 1949, intending to pass it to a new country club corporation, and the Ewing home was offered for use as a clubhouse. Later that year Nevada Country Club was incorporated with 165 members as a non-profit recreational club.
