About Soldiers Field Golf Course
Soldiers Field Golf Course dates to 1925 and has been owned by the city of Rochester since 1927, making it a long-standing municipal facility. It began as a six-hole layout, grew to nine holes with sand greens, and was later expanded to a full 18 holes with bentgrass greens designed by Hugh Vincent Feehan.
The course was the first 18-hole municipal layout built in outstate Minnesota, and its first professional, Herb Thienell, was hired in 1929. The present routing remains close to the original 18-hole design.
