Le Sueur Country Club traces its roots to 1925, when a group of local residents organized the Le Sueur Golf Club. The first slate of officers included Dr. R. M. Kraft as president, Ray Pfefferle as vice president, C. W. Weis as treasurer and E. E. Gilbertson as secretary.
For its first season the club rented forty acres from Ben Schlegel, on his farm east of town. Roughly fifteen of those acres had most recently been planted in corn, while the remainder was pasture. Turning that raw ground into playable, grassed-over golf holes took considerable effort from the founders, who worked through a long list of setbacks before the course took shape.
