About Washtenaw Golf Club
Washtenaw Golf Club in Ypsilanti dates to 1899, making it the third oldest golf course in Michigan. The 18-hole layout plays to a par of 72 and measures 6,512 yards from the back tees.
The club traces its beginnings to Cora Henry, I. Newton Swift and Daniel L. Quirk Jr., who set three empty tomato cans in a farmer's mown hay field west of town and invited friends to play. A year later, fifteen men from Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor founded the Washtenaw Country Club in Ypsilanti Township. Over time the grazing sheep gave way to mowers and the tomato cans to proper cups, and the hay field became a private club.

The design is traditional and classic in character, with narrow tree-lined fairways and quick, undulating greens that are well guarded. Length is modest, so accuracy matters more than distance, with tee-shot placement and precise approaches setting the challenge.
