Whitefish Lake Golf Club dates to June 1927, when it opened as a nine-hole course. It remained that way until architect Gerald Matthews drew up a master plan for renovation in the 1980s. The layout was extended in 1989, and practice facilities were added at the same time. The redesign was completed in 1996 under Jerry Matthews III.
Each hole carries its own name, a tradition that predates the modern design work. The course combines varied green complexes, shaped bunkering, tree-lined fairways and demanding tee shots, while remaining playable for a range of skill levels.
Practice options include a driving range and a putting green. The club sits in the northern Michigan countryside, roughly 25 minutes north of Grand Rapids.
