Blackheath Golf Club
About Blackheath Golf Club
Blackheath opened in 1998, designed and built by Kevin Aldrich, whose concept for the course grew out of a trip to Scotland. There he learned about the two styles of layout suited to that kind of topography, and brought the idea back to Rochester, Michigan.
Scotland's courses fall broadly into heathland and links types: heathland courses are laid out on former farmland set inland, while links sit along the coast. Rather than the rumpled fairways and deep bunkers typical of links golf, a heathland design features gently rolling fairways and shallow, flat bunkering — the character Aldrich pursued here.

The club's name is a nod to the Honourable Company associated with Blackheath, said to be the first golf club established in England, outside of Scotland.
