Leland Country Club

The original nine holes were laid out across forty-eight acres of former dairy farmland and included a few unusual details. What is now the 3rd green began as the 5th and had no grass at all, consisting of a hard clay base under a thin layer of sand that made holding an approach shot a challenge.

Better known still was the elevated wooden tee, raised some seven feet off the ground near the circle drive in front of the clubhouse, with a bench and railing where visitors sat to take in the view. A photograph of it hangs in the clubhouse today.
