Bear on the Mountain Golf Course
About Bear on the Mountain Golf Course
Bear on the Mountain is an 18-hole, par-70 course spread across more than 157 acres in Michigan's eastern Upper Peninsula, measuring 6,450 yards.
Known for roughly two decades as Hessel Ridge, the property has a long history in the regional golf community. It was acquired by the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians, adding a cultural dimension tied to the heritage of the land.
The layout features pronounced dogleg fairways, densely tree-lined corridors and well-conditioned greens. The trees frame the holes scenically while demanding accuracy on approach shots, making the course playable for newcomers yet strategically interesting for stronger players.
