The Patriot occupies roughly 225 acres of Northern Michigan hardwood forest and wildlife habitat in Grayling. Designed by Jeff Gorney, the layout features tree-lined, gently rolling fairways, marsh holes, heather rough and undulating greens.
The par-72 course offers four sets of tees, stretching from about 6,371 yards at the back markers to 4,829 yards from the forward tees, with slope ratings of 131 from the blues, 123 from the whites and 118 from the reds. An additional set of gold tees is in place but unrated. Variety is a defining trait of the routing, with holes calling for a wide range of clubs; accurate shots are rewarded, while missed landing areas leave a tougher recovery. The course also maintains a tradition of supporting the military.
