About Otsego Resort
Otsego Resort opened in 1939 just off I-75 in Gaylord, Michigan, beginning as a small alpine retreat before growing into a four-season destination for skiing, golf, dining and gatherings. The property overlooks the Sturgeon River Valley and retains a lodge-style character.
In 1955, Alan L. Gornick, formerly general counsel at Ford Motor Co., bought the resort from the estate of steel magnate Donald McLouth and broadened it into a year-round operation, adding the "Classic" golf course, a championship layout designed by William H. Diddel. Keith H. Gornick acquired the resort from his father in 1981. Over the course of the family's ownership, Otsego expanded from 60 rooms on 500 acres to 105 rooms on 4,000 acres.
