The Dunes Golf Club was founded in 1982 in the Glen Lake–Sleeping Bear Dunes area, opening the following spring as a nine-hole layout measuring 3,152 yards. A second nine was built in the fall of 1989 and opened for play in 1991. At 2,578 yards it plays shorter than the original side, but its narrow, tree-lined fairways place a premium on accuracy.
The combined 18-hole course now measures 5,730 yards and suits a range of skill levels, from casual rounds to more competitive play. The clubhouse includes a pro shop, club rentals and power carts, along with a snack bar serving hot dogs, coffee and soft drinks.
The course is open to the public and also offers memberships. It hosts community events and outings, and in summer serves as a gathering spot for golfers and visitors exploring the Northern Michigan outdoors.
