About Sugar Loaf The Old Course
The Old Course at Sugar Loaf lies about 30 minutes from Traverse City, a short distance from Lake Michigan and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, in the woodlands and rolling country of northern Michigan. It stretches beyond 6,700 yards from the back tees, making it a stiff test for experienced players.
The layout works through mature hardwoods, specimen spruce and native grasses, with poa annua greens, tees and fairways. Groves of day lilies and irises line parts of the course, while trillium, daffodils and other wildflowers appear across the forest floor in spring.

Practice is on a natural turf range with no mats or nets, giving room for both short-iron work and full driver swings of 300 yards.
