About Lakewood Golf Course
Lakewood Golf Course dates to the early 1920s, when its original nine drew the actors who spent their summers performing at the nearby Lakewood Theatre. That half of the course is laid out in a classic links style and includes some of the more demanding holes in the state. The back nine, designed by New England architect Phil Wogan, was completed in 1995 to create the current 18-hole layout. Among its distinctive holes is a par 6, said to be the only one in Maine, and the property offers views of Lake Wesserunsett on one side and Sugarloaf and the Western Mountains on the other.

The course has been in the Browne family since 1980, when brothers Jim and Bob Browne purchased it and ran it for more than two decades alongside Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro, built by their father. Lakewood is now operated by a third generation, Kevin and Margi Browne, who maintain a family-friendly atmosphere.
