About Caribou Country Club
Caribou Country Club was built in the early 1970s on land that had been the Cyrus Maxwell farm. The course was laid out by architect Geoffrey Cornish of Amherst, Massachusetts, whose practice continues today as Cornish, Silva and Mungeam, Inc. of Uxbridge. Cornish, known particularly for his work throughout New England, was assisted on the project by his young partner Bill Robinson, who went on to a notable design career on the West Coast.

Construction was handled by Cianbro, with Harold Hornbrook of Hornbrook Construction in Madawaska — a keen golfer himself — also taking part. Work progressed smoothly until the seventh, eighth and ninth holes, where funds ran short and the remaining soil was poor, the topsoil having already been spread on earlier holes. By one account from Leo Kieffer, a sewage-derived material called Milorganite, shipped from Milwaukee, was blended with sand and loam to build the greens.
