Whiskey Creek Golf Club

Whiskey Creek Golf Club was designed by architect J. Michael Poellot, with Ernie Els serving as design consultant — the first collaboration between the two. Poellot's firm, JMP Golf Design Group, has worked extensively on courses around the Pacific Rim. The pair set out to match the scale and boldness of the property itself, which lies about 35 miles from Washington, D.C.

The layout makes heavy use of the rolling terrain, with several elevated tees. The fifth tee is framed by large boulders and looks down a fairway that drops to a green roughly 100 feet below, with long views across the surrounding countryside. The 14th plays from a tee set above a long, narrow lake. The par 3s are defended by a mix of wetlands, water, bunkers and rock walls, with the 200-yard 11th guarded by all of them.
