Bear Hill Golf Club
About Bear Hill Golf Club
Founded in 1900, Bear Hill Golf Club in Stoneham is among the oldest private golf clubs in Massachusetts. The nine-hole course was laid out by architect Alex Findlay and plays as a test that remains approachable for a range of abilities.
In its earliest decades the property did double duty as both golf course and cow pasture, with fencing meant to keep the herd away from the greens. The barriers were not especially reliable, and stray shots toward grazing cattle were a routine part of early play.
The club works with golf course architect Mark Mungeam on ongoing improvements and refinements to the layout.
