Newton Commonwealth Golf Course has been in play since 1897 and sits roughly 10 miles from Boston. The layout was redesigned in the 1920s by architect Donald Ross and remains open to the public.
The course is known for its scenery along with a demanding test of shotmaking: greens run quick, fairways are relatively narrow, and water and sand bunkers come into play often. Course management tends to matter more than distance here, as long hitters frequently discover.
On site, a snack shop serves the "Buddy Burger" along with other casual fare, beer and a small selection of wine.
