Whaling City Golf Course sits on city-owned land in New Bedford, Massachusetts. It is operated by Bruce and Sue Carlson, who have worked in the golf business for more than four decades and also manage Marion Golf Course and Meadowbrook Driving Range. Bruce Carlson previously served as superintendent at several courses in the area.
The operators have undertaken an ongoing program of improvements to both the course and the clubhouse since taking over the property.

The course has ties to the local community: it serves as home to the golf teams from New Bedford High School and the city's vocational school, and it supports a weekly junior clinic run with the help of volunteer golfers and professionals.
