Turner Hill Golf Club

Turner Hill Golf Club in Ipswich occupies a historic New England estate whose centerpiece is a mansion designed by turn-of-the-century architect William Rantoul. The house was commissioned in 1898 by Charles Goodnough Rice and Ann Proctor Rice of Boston, who drew inspiration for the project from an extended tour of European castles and manor houses.

Finished in 1903, the mansion features hand-molded plaster ceilings, painted wall friezes, oak hardwood floors, and hand-carved paneling, doors, and staircases. Its reception hall, with wildlife motifs and windows patterned after Haddington Hall in Scotland, reflects a level of craftsmanship seldom attempted today.
