About Hemlock Ridge Golf Course
Hemlock Ridge Golf Course sits on the former Laurel Hill Farm, a 150-acre property on Holland Road in Fiskdale that John and Terry Palmer purchased and worked as a cattle and hay farm, producing roughly 1,500 bales a year while John also worked as a stone and brick mason.
The golf course was built largely by hand on weekends by John, his sons Marc, Joe, Ward and Kevin, and his brother-in-law Arthur, using a single second-hand John Deere tractor. Philip Logan was hired as the architect for the design.

The nine-hole layout opened for walking golfers only, with operations run out of the barn at the family homestead and parking limited to the front lawn. In the early years the family continued haying alongside the fourth and sixth fairways, gradually opening them up further.
