About Amherst Golf Club
Amherst Golf Club dates to 1900 and operates as a semi-private club, owned by Amherst College and run independently by an incorporated group of local golfers. Set along Route 116, the course sits a short distance from both the college campus and the Amherst Town Common.
The nine-hole layout was designed by Walter Hatch, an assistant to Donald Ross, and later renovated by Geoffrey Cornish. It plays to a par of 35, measuring 3,075 yards from the back tees and 2,983 yards from the forward markers, with holes ranging from 160 to 535 yards. Multiple tee options, elevated tees and greens, and numerous greenside bunkers shape the challenge, and the putting surfaces are known for their speed. Gold tees were added in 2025.
