About Beau Chene Country Club

The Oak Course at Beau Chene Country Club was designed and built in 1974 by golf course architect Joe Lee, and includes a demanding par-5 15th hole.

The property's golf history reaches back much further. In the 1930s, attorney and supermarket owner William Penick bought the land and built a large Colonial home called Beaux Chênes, named for the row of live oaks linking the house to what is now Highway 22. Penick also laid out a three-hole course along the Tchefuncte River. In the 1960s, William Right, Mark C. Smith and his son acquired the property and created an 18-hole golf development under the Beaux Chênes name, with the Penick Plantation house serving as both clubhouse and sales office.

Morgan Earnest and Lester Kabacoff purchased the land in 1972 and began work on the Oak Course, the Beau Chene Office Park and the current clubhouse, located east of the original plantation house.
