Pond-A-River Golf Club sits along the Maumee River in Woodburn, Indiana, where its 18 holes spread across 86 acres of hills, ponds, trees and creeks.
The land was once a farm owned by William Harry Stephenson before the Arnold Radke family built the original nine holes, which opened in 1969. Dick and Martha Chilcote purchased the course in 1972, and Dick designed the back nine with his son John in 1975 on an additional 37 acres, with construction handled by Robert Beard. David Gerig of Woodburn bought the club from the Chilcote family in March 2012.
Traces of the site's earlier history surfaced during construction: an early settler's log cabin once stood where the eighth green lies, and Mr. Radke unearthed old log planks from its foundation.
