The Country Club of Terre Haute
About The Country Club of Terre Haute
The Country Club of Terre Haute traces its origins to October 3, 1898, when it was organized as The Terre Haute Golf Club, just six years after the first golf club in the United States was founded in New York City. The name was changed to the Country Club of Terre Haute in 1900. In those early days members rode the street car to a nearby cemetery and walked across the course to reach the clubhouse.

The club relocated to its current site in Allendale in 1918, where a nine-hole course was laid out. That clubhouse was destroyed by fire on October 5, 1923; no one was injured, though several people had narrow escapes as the flames and debris spread quickly. A replacement clubhouse was finished in the winter of 1924–1925, and a second nine opened in the spring of 1925, giving Terre Haute its first eighteen-hole course. The original nine, salvaged after the fire, became the back nine.
