About Crooked Stick Golf Club

Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana, was designed and built in 1964 by Pete and Alice Dye, and stands as Pete Dye's first major course. Backed by a group of some 60 Indianapolis-area golfers who formed a corporation to buy the land, Dye transformed a flat cornfield into a links-inspired layout drawing on the work of Alister MacKenzie, Donald Ross and C.B. Macdonald.

The routing reflects Dye's travels to St. Andrews, Muirfield, Prestwick, Carnoustie and Royal Dornoch. Cornfield ground was reshaped into wide fairways with generous landing areas, leaving the approach shots as the sterner test. Features unusual in American design at the time, but familiar in Scotland, include railroad ties, strip bunkers, sand and grass pot bunkers, mounding and blind spots.

The club has hosted the 1991 PGA Championship, the 1993 U.S. Women's Open, the 2005 Solheim Cup, and the BMW Championship in 2012 and 2016.
