Cinder Ridge Golf Course is a public 18-hole layout covering roughly 350 acres in Wilmington. The ground was shaped over some 70 years of mining activity, leaving deep ravines, level stretches and coal refuse, and the course takes its name from the ridge of cinders that remains visible on the property.
Tee shots present the main challenge, with the fairways and greens playing somewhat gentler. There are 56 bunkers and relatively flat, medium-to-large putting surfaces of about 5,000 to 8,000 square feet. Tee areas are larger than average, allowing varied placements that change a hole's length and playing angle, and the generous par-three tees help spread out wear. Holes are routed to feel separated from one another.
Five sets of tees stretch from 4,840 to 6,968 yards, and a 10-acre practice area is available.
