Prophet Hills Country Club

Prophet Hills Country Club traces its origins to 1959, when a group of Prophetstown residents set out to bring a golf course and other recreational facilities to the community. It opened as a private club, and its first clubhouse was built through the combined efforts of the original 90 members, local contractors and volunteers.

The nine-hole layout was routed across an 82-acre tract by Walter G. Brakeman, a landscape architect from Lafayette, Illinois. It measures 3,100 yards with a par of 35. Built with golfers of average ability in mind, the course is neither long nor especially demanding, though the hilly ground keeps it interesting for newcomers and experienced players alike. The design works to limit lost balls, avoid shots played into the sun and accommodate those who slice.
