About Mattoon Golf & Country Club
Mattoon Golf & Country Club is a member-owned, private non-profit club offering golf along with dining and social activities for members, their families and guests.
The club was organized in 1920 by a group of Mattoon businessmen, who leased fifty acres of land east of town from J. A. McFall with an option to purchase after ten years. Golf architect L. G. Lockwood, then based at French Lick Springs, Indiana, laid out the original nine holes, and a clubhouse was built under contract by A. C. Loomis. The club opened with 200 members. A second nine holes was added and opened for play in 1972.

The clubhouse has been altered several times over the years, including the enclosure of its porches and a substantial renovation in 1986. Further work in 2018 and 2019 included a complete rebuild of the St. Andrew's Pub, a new deck, and updates to restrooms, carpeting, ceilings and the sound system. Other amenities include a swimming pool, added in 1966, and tennis courts dating from 1986.
