About The Evans at Canal Shores
Formerly known as Canal Shores Golf Course, The Evans at Canal Shores in Evanston is a non-profit, century-old layout that has been reimagined and reopened as a fully upgraded 18-hole, par-60 course. The project was led by KemperSports together with the Canal Shores Board, with funding and support from the Western Golf Association/Evans Scholars Foundation, First Tee – Greater Chicago, Wadsworth Golf Charities, the Chicago District Golf Association, Quitno Golf Designs and private donors. Alongside the course are a youth development training center and the Western Golf Association Caddie Academy.

The name honors Chick Evans, the amateur champion who went to high school in Evanston and, rather than turning professional, directed his golf earnings toward founding the Evans Scholars Foundation in 1930. The course sits less than a mile from the first Evans Scholarship House, opened in 1940 at Northwestern University.
