The Highlands of Elgin opens with a par 4 that offers a fairly wide landing area, with three bunkers down the right side. Its two-tiered green is flanked by bunkers on the left and a collection area on the right, making distance control important when the pin sits on the upper shelf.
The medium-length par 5 that follows favors longer hitters: a ridge splits the fairway and a collection area waits on the right, while two bunkers guard the layup zone on the left. The long, narrow green is undulating and rewards a precise approach.

The course then moves around an old quarry, beginning with a shorter par 4 where three bunkers sit in the middle of the fairway. Aggressive lines down the right shorten the approach but bring a narrowing fairway and a creek into play, while the wider left side leaves more club in. A false front sends anything short into a collection area.
