About Robert A. Black Golf Club
Robert A. Black Golf Club is the most recent addition to the Chicago Park District's golf portfolio, and its lineage reaches back further than most. The course traces its origins to 1896, when it began as a private five-hole layout known as Edgewater Golf Club, sited about two miles east along the Lake Michigan shoreline. The club relocated to the present grounds in 1910, and in the 1970s the property was reworked into a combination of open parkland and the nine-hole course played today.
The layout makes use of elevated tee boxes and raised greens, with sand traps tucked tightly around the putting surfaces. Four par 3s give the nine a strong short-hole component.
